Our Young Scientist Program Journey in 2019
It has been a fruitful year for the students from the Young Scientists Programme (YSP) as they get their heads and hands messy (sometimes dirty) with different projects and competitions!
Unity Science Innovation Challenge 2019
First off, after months of research to complete a scientific report and a poster, Stephanie Yun (3/2), Ling Jia Jia (3/2) and Tasmin Mumtahina (3/1) were awarded Outstanding Project (Silver) in USPE 2019!

Cluster West 6 Science Enrichment Day
On 3 May, AES hosted the W6 Cluster Science Enrichment day where YSP members conducted the PET Rocket Competition for the cluster schools.

AES Learning Festival
On 22 May, AES kick-started our very own Learning Festival, jointly organised by the Mathematics, Science and Humanities Departments! The secondary 1 students participated in either The Amazing Race or the PET Rocket Competition, conducted by secondary 2 and 3 YSP members respectively. During the Amazing Race, the students moved around the school in search of clues to find their “missing friend”! Using an open-source app, which is accessible from the ipads, the students had a lot of fun using their brain juices to solve Mathematics, Science and Humanities problems.

The highlight of the Learning Festival is the Thought-Provoking Assembly. Totally planned and executed by the Secondary 4 YSP members, they put up a 1.5 hours of show combining science and mathematical concepts!

Youth Science Ambassador Program
During the June Holiday, 5 of our YSP students participated in the Youth Science Ambassador Programme organised by the Singapore Science Centre. They used the Design Thinking Process to analyse the needs of the elderly and came up with an app Talking Wheelie to help them.

HCI Science Projects Competition
To end off the year, a group consisting of Pena Isabelle Armie Barzaga (2/1), Ng Peng Yu Owen (2/1), Davisha Kumar (2/2) and Huang Yin Tong (2/2) achieved High Distinction in the Hwa Chong Institution Science Research Projects Competition! Congratulation!

We hope that YSP will continue to shine with the great commitment and effort by the teachers and students!
